Polar project: on your marks...get set...
Well despite the big plans we haven't got far with our polar project.
I've collected some links (I've added most to the side bar on the right), downloaded a polar explorer box theme thingy here from currclick and also downloaded a cardboard penguin for free from Canon Creative Park here to put together. (Dd actually requested a polar bear, but seeing as the polar bear is more complicated-looking and it's been down to me to put most of the penguin together so far, polar bear can wait.)
The kids have watched the first episode of Frozen Planet and our free poster has arrived. We now have several polar-themed posters up in the hall, replacing the milk and other company marketing board ones that were up while we were following Hugh Fearnley Whatshisface's book The River Cottage Family Cookbook.
We've started making fake fossils and I've bought some marine-themed paper for our decoupages. I promise photos of work in progress, just as soon as we get a table clear enough to get the tub of glue on.

Let's get thematically seasonal. It's bloomin' cold 'ere.
Ok, well as the weather seems to be quickly heading towards south pole temperatures it seems only appropriate to tackle an icy theme.
I've already mentioned the free poster available from the OU here (while stocks last)
which accompanies the BBC series Frozen Planet currently available on bbc iplayer here (for the next few months.)
My fellow blogger and home educator at Just Life by the Sea also pointed out this antarctica game, which I'd forgotten about (thank you!). It's on one of my favourite websites for chemistry curricula. It had completely slipped my mind there were other freebie downloads available on the site. I recommend you check it out.
If anyone else has any other good resources they'd suggest for an icy-frozen-planet-arctic-themed project feel free to add them in the comments box below. We have a few books, ordered last time I attempted this theme. It didn't quite get off the ground last time...
